EVENTS COMMITTEE:

WHAT: The Events Commitee plans special activities and events centered around reaching out to our neighborhood community. We engage in multi-generational Munjoy Hill residents in seasonal and cultural events ranging from local author talks, to artist pop-ups, and two-day shows, to holiday celebrations, plant sales, music, and craft gatherings. Our goal is to welcome and celebrate and preserve the spirit of the Munjoy Hill Neighborhood through a variety of activities. Through our work, we hope to generate more MHNO memberships.

WHEN: Ad hoc

WHO: Maggy Wolf, Carol Connor, Mary Casale, Deb Murray, and Kate Connolly

NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE:

WHAT: Under delegated authority from and oversight of the Secretary of the MHNO, the members of the Newsletter Committee prepare, circulate to the officers of the MHNO for review, and publish electronic newsletters of the MHNO on a periodic basis. The goal is to accurately publicize events, initiatives and positions of the MHNO; to provide information about issues, policies and services affecting the Munjoy Hill neighborhood; and to further the goals of the MHNO with regard to strengthening social fabric, engaging in community-building events and activities, and providing information on issues and policies of interest and concern.

HILL HOUSE BUILDING COMMITTEE:

WHAT: The Hill House Committee maintains the Hill House by coordinating volunteer maintenance projects and providing property management for short-term and long-term building solutions in order to support MHNO-sponsored and community events hosted at the Hill House year-round.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMITTEE:

WHAT: The Housing Committee discusses the housing challenges on the Hill and in Portland in general. We consider the causes of the current housing crises, and when possible, compile data on development, city zoning and short-term rentals (STRs). We brainstorm strategies for positive housing outcomes, such as protecting low-income housing, supporting affordable housing development, preventing more luxury condo development, and strengthening oversight of STRs.

WHEN: Adhoc

WHO: Ned Chester, Nina Schmir, Karen Snyder, Mike Dixon, Ali Mann, and Deb Murray

**************************************************************************************************

LONG-TERM PLANNING COMMITTEE:

WHAT: The Long-Term Planning committee is charged with the work of updating MHNO’s mission, vision, and values statements and the formats (website, social media, analog media, calendar, etc.), in which they are presented and shared with the Board, membership, and larger community. It continues this work by considering factors such as the available history and founding documents of MHNO, the wishes of its current members, the challenges and opportunities in the City right now, and examples from other neighborhood organizations.

WHEN: As needed, roughly monthly

WHO: Ned Chester, Mike Dixon, Mary Casale, and Ali Mann
